How client support works
What counts as urgent
Urgent means the business cannot work: a server or line of business application is down, nobody can send email, or you suspect a breach. A single user with a slow laptop, a new hire who needs a mailbox, or a question about how something works is normal priority. If you are not sure which one you have, call client support and say so. It is better to flag something as urgent and be told it can wait than to sit quietly on a real outage.
What happens after you reach out
Every call, email, and portal request becomes a client support ticket, so nothing depends on someone remembering it. Tickets are worked in priority order rather than the order they arrive, which is why an outage jumps ahead of a password reset. You can follow progress in the helpdesk portal at any time, and replying to the ticket email adds your notes straight to the record.
Support hours and monitoring are not the same thing
Support hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Eastern. Monitoring runs continuously, which means your systems are watched outside those hours and alerts are raised even when nobody is at a desk. Those are two different promises and it is worth knowing which is which. An alert at 2am gets picked up by monitoring; a routine request emailed at 2am gets picked up in the morning. Anything genuinely business impacting should be a phone call rather than an email.
Check whether it is actually your problem
If email or Teams misbehaves for everyone at once, the cause may sit with Microsoft rather than with you. The Microsoft 365 service status page is worth thirty seconds before you pick up the phone, and it is the first thing client support will check anyway.
